The National Examinations in World Languages (NEWL) is an online proficiency exam for language learners of critical languages ( including Portuguese and Russian) seeking college placement or credit.

AP Language and Culture courses are designed to prepare students to achieve and to demonstrate their level of the studied language proficiency across three modes of communication (presentational, interpretive, and interpersonal) and 8 domains (comprehensibility, comprehension, language control, vocabulary, cultural awareness, connection, communication strategies and comparison).

The AP Language and Cultural courses are offered to students who have completed at least Language Year 3 with the final grade of B- or passed the placement test.
